Wise up!
Another warm welcome groupies, to the new website and a return to reminding you what we have been looking at during YG recently.
March has seen the beginning of a series on the book of Proverbs - looking at God's Life for Dummies manual. Last week, we saw that the author of Proverbs urges us to pursue wisdom, because it's more precious than anything you can find. Not only that, its value is in what rewards you will reap if you live a life of wisdom. All our actions have consequences, there's no way foolish actions are going to get you very far, but on the other hand, wise decisions guarantee success!
In the book of Proverbs, the author writes about wisdom as if it is a beautiful, desirable woman that will bring a man great happiness. Many a woman will bring a foolish man great heartbreak, but this one is guaranteed to make him happy as long as he is faithful to her!
The Bible doesn't mince its words - the opposite of a wise man is a FOOL! We asked ourselves, are we more a wise person or a fool? Are there areas of our lives where we are foolish? Our thought for the week was to think about the following questions:
Do you lose your temper easily?
Do you break rules in small ways by cheating here and there?
Do you have problems in your relationships with family/friends?
Do you not work or study as hard as you should?
Do you spend money without thinking carefully?
Are you undisciplined?
Do you lie or distort the truth?
Are you proud, glad that you’re not like certain other people?
Do you struggle with sexual temptations or thoughts?
Perhaps you can think of other aspects of your life that need an injection of wisdom. We'll start off by setting our focus back on where wisdom comes from - God. Our memory verse for the month of March is:
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Proverbs 1:7
It'll be a good start to commit that to memory... step up to the challenge!
